Unique Valerie
A passionate traveler, Valerie has visited every continent. She travels around a lot to see as much of the country as possible, and she never goes to the same destination twice. An avid cycler, she always tries to insert a cycling trip. Spare time at home is reserved for Valerie's activities as chairman of a business club and reading. Currently on her nightstand lies 'The Ultimate Question 2.0. How Net Promoter Companies Thrive in a Customer-Driven World' by Reichheld.
Robert Vandewalle's quote 'If it has to happen, it starts with me' is Valerie's motto. There is no such thing as spontaneous combustion. Don't wait, but set things in motion yourself. Consequently, she'd advise her younger self to dare to jump because, in the end, everything will be fine.
When asked about her heroes, Valerie notes she has met numerous amazing people. Particularly astounding are those who throw themselves with passion. Humble heroes deserve recognition too. In healthcare, for instance, far from the spotlight, one can find many a hero who doesn't have a world impact.
Some learning fees Valerie has had to pay in her life she deems unnecessary. A formal mentor as a sounding board with compelling eyes could have helped her avoid unpleasant situations by pointing out to look back once in a while. Now, Valerie is on a mission as a mentor to save people from making the same mistakes. She can empathize quickly, has a helicopter view by nature of her roles, asks many questions, and discovers blind spots easily. People can do more than they think, provided they are comfortable. Sometimes, a gentle push gets them to do something outside their comfort zone and do more than they think.
Our newsletter is about leadership development through business mentoring.
